With its Google Home Max Speaker, Google changed the perception that it doesn’t immediately spring to mind when considering house audio.

The Nest Mini (formerly the Home Mini) was not specifically designed for listening to music, even though the earlier models were essentially speakers. The Google Assistant can be questioned using these devices, and they may occasionally be used to operate smart home appliances. The Google Home Max is different in this regard.

The Google Home Max White speaker is a large, intelligent device. It has a lovely design and stands out from the rest of the lineup because it was made specifically for music listening.

The Google Home Max has now been formally discontinued, but is it still worthwhile if you can find one on sale? Let’s find out!

Google Home Max Speakers: An Overview

A smart speaker with excellent audio clarity and a stylish, modern design is the Google Home Max White. Two 4.5-inch high-excursion woofers and two 0.7-inch tweeters are used in the Home Max to produce a rich, complete sound.

It comes with an integrated Chromecast that enables you to stream audio from your phone, tablet, or laptop, including music, podcasts, and other audio material. Therefore, no extra cables or wires are required for you to enjoy your preferred music and podcasts on the Google Home Max White.

It also has Google Assistant technology, which enables voice commands to operate smart home appliances, play music, and more. The Home Max is the ideal complement to a variety of interiors thanks to its simple and minimalist design.

Design and Build Quality

The Home Max is sleek and gorgeous in contrast to the original, smaller Google Home speaker, which resembles an air freshener or scented candle. The nice fabric speaker grille is inserted so seamlessly into the rounded edges and smooth outline that it appears to be one component with the surrounding matte plastic.

White LEDs glow behind the surface to show the volume level, and the canvas has a faint sheen. The brightness of the Lights is adjusted by an ambient light sensor. The sound is produced by two 0.7-inch tweeters and two 4.5-inch woofers hidden beneath the cover. Class D amplifiers provide the juice for these drivers.

Google Home Max White comes in versions that are 7.5 by 13.3 by 6.1 inches (HWD) in white/light grey (“chalk”) or black/grey (“charcoal”) combinations. Although it weighs 11.7 pounds, that is acceptable because it is not designed to be movable.

The top panel of the speaker has a touch-sensitive surface that can be used to change the intensity. To lower or raise the level, slide your finger to the left. When linked via Bluetooth, these levels cooperate with the mobile device’s master levels. The play/pause button is located in the middle of this panel, which is demarcated by a brief straight line. It goes without saying that you can just speak to the Google Home Max speaker, but we found these controls to be incredibly responsive.

The speakerphone and microphone for Google Assistant are switched on and off by a microphone switch that runs along the rear panel. For remote speech commands, the speaker employs a system of six far-field microphones.

On the underside of the rear panel, there are connections for the supplied power cable, a USB-C port (which, strangely, can also be used to link to the internet using an adapter), and a 3,5mm jack. The USB-C port does not support additional storage or audio sources.

Sound Quality

The Google Home Max speakers stand out for their superior sound clarity. Google understood the importance of audio quality if it was going to create a speaker this big intended for music listening.

One way it chose to achieve that was by including its own algorithms, which let the speaker use six internal sensors to self-adjust its EQ in response to its placement. The Google team refers to this feature as Smart Sound, and although I am unable to vouch for it, the sound was consistent enough that I was unable to distinguish between placing the speaker on top of a marble countertop or a table in the back of the room.

The bottom end of a speaker will typically sound amplified if it is placed in a corner, almost like placing your phone in a cup. But the Google Home Max White self-corrects to maintain constant sound quality.

This is advantageous if you don’t feel like manually EQing your music because you won’t have that degree of control, but disadvantageous if you do. On the other hand, the Google Home app only offers rudimentary bass and treble sliders.

Google Assistant

The Max is undoubtedly more than just a speaker. It’s a device for Google Assistant. You configure it using the Google Home app on your Android or iOS phone, and then you can use the “Hey Google” voice command to play music, operate smart home appliances, search the web, or get answers to queries.

In terms of supported smart home companies, Amazon continues to lead Google, and ironically, it continues to handle calendar information for users with G Suite accounts better. But as a whole-home solution, Google Assistant is fantastic. It can distinguish between up to six distinct voices belonging to various Google accounts, sync audio between rooms, and even broadcast messages to every Google Home device in your home.

The assistant plays songs from Google Play Music, YouTube Red, Spotify, or Pandora. The Google Home Max White allows you to transmit music via a Wi-Fi Chromecast link, Bluetooth, or an audio cable but does not support voice activation of locally stored music or your personal music collection.

Smart Home Connectivity

More and more people are searching for ways to upgrade the intelligence of their homes. As people search for ways to save energy and enhance comfort, smart home connectivity is becoming more and more popular.

Pros and Cons

Decent acoustics. For aural purists, the bass is too much.
Internal sensors can adjust themselves based on the surroundings.Options for lossless music could be improved.
It functions as a mono speaker, a stereo pair, or a component of a complete home music system. When music is playing loudly, microphones struggle to pick up speech.
Beautiful concept.Huge Cost
Google Assistant is constantly improving.

Who Should Buy Google Home Max White?

  • Persons involved in the Google ecosystem can instruct your speaker to cast to your TV using a Chromecast without ever using the remote control. For YouTube and YouTube Audio, the same holds.
  • Any regular user of the Google voice search assistant still provides the finest responses of all the personal assistants and will only get better over time if you’re like me and need to be reminded of fundamental facts all day.

The Nest Audio speaker is your best option moving forward if you want to stick with Google after the Google Home Max is discontinued. The best part is that it only costs USD 99 and has a nice minimalist design and excellent sound. It’s great that you can buy two of these and use them in stereo. Consider the Amazon Echo (4th Gen) if you have a greater interest in Amazon hardware; it rates favorably to the Home max.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Google Home Max White is a smart speaker that has a modern, minimalist appearance and excellent audio clarity.

Smart Sound is another feature of it, which automatically modifies the audio to match the environment and your action. Along with a wide variety of voice commands, the Google Home Max White also integrates with other smart devices. You can use vocal commands to control your music, make reminders, check the weather, and more, thanks to the built-in Google Assistant.

There aren’t many choices if you want a smart speaker with good sound. Even though the microphones on the Google Home Max speakers have difficulty picking up your voice when music is being played loudly, the device is still impressive. The fact that Google Home Max has been discontinued is sad, but there are many excellent substitutes for this difficult-to-find speaker that will enhance your smart home, so don’t fret.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Ans: You must connect your Apple Music account to the Home app in order to stream Apple Music on a Google Home Max speaker. After you’ve connected your accounts, you can ask the Home Max to play a specific song or artist from Apple Music.

Ans: Google has not formally stated why the product will no longer be available. On the online store, Home Max has just abruptly become “sold out.” Several sources on technological advancements make it obvious that they would stop producing the product but would keep supporting current users.

Ans: Yes, technically, but we wouldn’t advise it. You can use the Google Home Max speaker as a soundbar because it has a 3.5mm input on the back. The audio on your TV will undoubtedly be louder if you connect it in this manner, but that doesn’t guarantee a better viewing experience. The Google Home Max White is a fantastic speaker, but it was made to enhance the quality of your music, not movies.
